How long do I stay in Prague after lens replacement surgery?
Most UK and Ireland patients travelling to Prague for lens replacement surgery stay for approximately 4 to 5 days in total. During their stay, they undergo a comprehensive eye examination, personalised lens selection, surgery on both eyes and a post-operative check-up before returning home. Patients typically arrive on Sunday, attend their detailed eye examination on Monday, have lens replacement surgery on Wednesday and fly home after their Thursday morning check-up.
At Beauty in Prague, every patient undergoes a comprehensive 2–3 hour eye examination performed by our experienced refractive eye specialists. During this consultation, precise measurements are taken to determine the most suitable intraocular lenses for your eyes and visual needs. Surgery on both eyes is typically performed on Wednesday, followed by a post-operative examination the next morning before travelling home.
One of the advantages of travelling to Prague for lens replacement surgery is that there are very few restrictions before the procedure. Patients can enjoy sightseeing, explore Prague’s beautiful historic centre and dine in the city’s many restaurants before surgery. After the procedure, we recommend taking it easy for the remainder of the day, but most patients are comfortable returning to their accommodation and managing independently. Many of our patients travel alone and have no difficulty during their stay.
Recovery after lens replacement surgery is usually quick. Many patients notice significantly clearer vision already on the next morning. At the post-operative check-up the following morning, some patients already describe their vision as being close to 20/20. However, recovery is individual and vision continues to improve over time as the eyes heal and the brain adapts to the new lenses through a process known as neuroadaptation.
Before returning home, patients receive detailed aftercare instructions together with all necessary medications, including antibiotic eye drops and other prescribed eye drops. While most normal daily activities can be resumed quickly, we generally recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, gym workouts, swimming and other intensive sports for approximately four weeks after surgery.
