Our Prague Eye Surgeon Recognised by ZEISS at ESCRS 2026 in London

We are proud to share an important international achievement for our Prague eye clinic. Andrea Janeková, MD, PhD, FEBO, FEBOS-CR, has received the ZEISS AT LUCIA toric Pioneer Award at the 44th Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), held in London from 11 to 15 September 2026.

ZEISS presented the award to seven surgeons from different countries in recognition of their pioneering role in introducing a new generation of toric intraocular lenses into clinical practice.

A world-first implantation in Prague (the Czech republic)

The recognition follows a significant surgical milestone. On 13 April 2026, Dr Janeková became the first surgeon in the world to implant the new ZEISS AT LUCIA toric 721P, with the procedure performed at our Prague eye clinic.

The ZEISS AT LUCIA toric 721P is a hydrophobic monofocal toric intraocular lens designed for patients with cataracts and astigmatism. Its bitoric design is intended to enable precise correction of astigmatism at the same time as Cataract surgery or Lens replacement surgery.

Our Prague eye clinic was among a selected group of international centres involved in the lens’s early clinical use. The new lens was subsequently launched internationally by ZEISS during the ESCRS Congress in London.

Sharing Prague’s clinical experience in London

Dr Janeková’s contribution to ESCRS extended well beyond receiving the award. She presented the first clinical experience with the ZEISS AT LUCIA toric 721P, including the importance of precise surgical planning, appropriate lens selection and long-term lens stability.

She also participated in international expert panels and interactive discussions covering presbyopia correction, patient expectations, clinical outcomes and the management of challenging cases in refractive surgery.

Sharing real clinical experience is an important part of improving treatment. It allows surgeons to compare results, discuss complex situations openly and bring valuable knowledge back into everyday patient care.
