UK cosmetic surgery statistics 2013

, UK cosmetic surgery statistics 2013

The latest audit from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) state that in 2013 it recorded a 41% rise in Liposuction procedures. According to BAAPS, there were 50,122 surgical procedures performed in 2013 – a rise of 17% on average since 2012.

Breast Augmentation (otherwise known as a Boob Job) remained the most popular procedure overall. 11,135 Augmentations were completed in 2013 which is an increase of 13% on 2012.

The biggest increase on the previous year was for Liposuction. Liposuction is a procedure that removes unwanted fat from certain areas of the body, increased by 41% on 2012, a total of 4,326 procedures. The procedure is becoming increasingly popular for men. BAAPS believe the increase in Liposuction is because of the amount of quick fix non-surgical treatments available at beauty salons not having the affect that was advertised, so people opt for surgery to ensure they get the results wanted.

For women, Breast Augmentation was the most popular with 11,123 procedures carried out in 2013 – a rise of 13% on the previous year. Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Operation) were the second most popular cosmetic procedure followed by Facelifts in third place.

For men, Rhinoplasty was the most popular with 1,037 procedures carried out last year. Eyelid Operations (Blepharoplasty) were the second most popular procedure in 2013, followed by Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia).
