Can I Travel Alone Abroad for Lens Replacement Surgery?
Yes. Many UK and Ireland patients travel alone abroad to Prague for lens replacement surgery every year. Travelling for eye surgery is often much easier than patients expect, especially when supported by experienced English-speaking coordinators who help organise every step of the journey.
At Beauty in Prague, our coordinators assist patients before they travel, helping with treatment planning, accommodation recommendations and practical information about their stay in Prague. Many of our patients arrive on their own and manage perfectly well throughout their visit.
Patients typically stay in Prague for approximately 4 to 5 days. After arriving, they undergo a comprehensive 2–3 hour eye examination and consultation, during which our refractive eye specialists take detailed measurements and determine the most suitable intraocular lenses. Surgery on both eyes is usually performed on Wednesday, followed by a post-operative check-up the next morning before travelling home.
Our highly experienced refractive eye surgeons have collectively performed more than 100,000 eye procedures. Treating both eyes on the same day is a standard approach that allows patients to benefit from one surgery, one recovery period and a quicker return to normal activities.
Immediately after surgery, vision is usually blurry, but patients are generally able to take care of themselves and return to their accommodation. Our English-speaking patient coordinator will arrange a taxi to take patients back to their hotel or apartment after the procedure. Many solo travellers tell us they were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and straightforward the experience was.

You can also view our patient video reviews to hear directly from UK and Ireland patients who travelled to Prague for lens replacement surgery and share their experiences before, during and after treatment.
Before surgery, patients are free to enjoy Prague’s beautiful historic centre, restaurants and attractions. Many combine their lens replacement surgery with a short city break and appreciate the opportunity to explore one of Europe’s most visited destinations.
At the post-operative check-up the following morning, many patients already notice significantly clearer vision and some even describe their vision as being close to 20/20. Recovery after Lens Replacement surgery is individual, however, and vision continues to improve as the eyes heal and the brain adapts to the new lenses through a process known as neuroadaptation.
Before returning home, patients receive detailed aftercare instructions together with all necessary medications, including antibiotic eye drops and other prescribed eye drops. While most daily activities can be resumed quickly, we generally recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, gym workouts and swimming for approximately four weeks after surgery.
Whether you are travelling with a companion or on your own, our team will guide you through the entire process from your first enquiry to your return home.
