Breast Surgery – True or False

4. 8. 2015

Breast Augmentation Surgery was the number 1 cosmetic surgery procedure performed during 2014. Breast Surgery can help to improve a woman’s self confidence.

Many questions are raised when having Breast Surgery such as, can it lead to breast cancer? Will they leak? Will they feel hard/unnatural? The answer to most common myths is no, but there is no harm doing research and asking your surgeon prior to surgery.

Having any kind of cosmetic surgery is a big decision and it can be difficult looking at the pros and cons of the chosen procedure where there are many myths commonly associated with the surgery.

They will look fake: FALSE

If the surgery is performed properly then it will not lead to an unnatural look. Prior to surgery make sure you chose a certified and experienced doctor who specialises in the procedure you are having. Making sure that the correct implants are chosen for you, this is based on the patient’s age, weight, height and existing cup size. The implants are then placed with care in the best position for a natural look.

I won’t be able to breast-feed: FALSE

One of the biggest myths associated with any breast surgery is that the patient will no longer be able to breast-feed due to inability or fear. Many believe that the implants prevent breast-feeding or that they will transfer harmful chemicals to the baby. These are both false claims. Currently no medical evidence exists to prove that implants interfere with breast-feeding.

They will have to be replaced regularly: FALSE

Implants do not have to be replaced regularly. In some cases individuals may have to have theirs replaced eventually but this is based on the individual and how they care for their body, the age they have the procedure, the type of implant used.
