Before surgery, patients undergo a comprehensive 2–3 hour eye examination and diagnostic assessment on Monday. During this detailed consultation, our specialists collect precise measurements of the eyes and determine which premium intraocular lenses will provide the best vision for each individual patient. The surgery itself is then typically performed on Wednesday.
Treating both eyes on the same day is safe, effective and more convenient for patients. Instead of having two separate operations, patients only undergo one surgical procedure and one recovery period. This means significantly less stress and anxiety compared with returning for a second surgery on another day.
Lens replacement surgery is quick and painless, with each eye usually taking around 10 to 15 minutes. Although vision is normally blurry immediately after the procedure, patients can take care of themselves and return to their accommodation the same day. Many of our patients travel to Prague alone and manage perfectly well. Our English-speaking patient coordinator arranges a taxi after surgery, which takes patients directly back to their hotel or apartment.
Patients are advised to rest for the remainder of the day and are provided with detailed postoperative instructions, including a complete set of eye drops and antibiotic drops. The following morning, patients return to the eye clinic for their postoperative check-up. Most patients already see very well at this appointment, and some even describe their vision as being close to 20/20. Recovery is individual, but vision typically continues to improve over the following days and weeks.
After the postoperative examination, most international patients are able to fly home. They receive full instructions on how to care for their eyes and continue using their prescribed eye drops during recovery.
